John Morgan

I went to the funeral of John Morgan today, my mum’s partner who died a few weeks ago. I didn’t think there were going to be many there but in the end there were about 25, mostly from the croquet and bridge clubs that he belonged to, but also the driver of a local charity’s minibus that takes residents to a supermarket every fortnight. He was clearly a well liked and well respected man. I gave a short testimonial, and afterwards many of the attendees came over and said they remembered mum too so that was an unexpected bonus. Mum’s ashes were put inside the coffin with John as John’s wish was for their ashes to be scattered together on the croquet green where they met. Amazingly, the croquet club have agreed to it so John’s sun will organise that shortly. I’m not sure if I’ll go - I feel that I’ve laid mum to rest already when she died - but I’ll see how I feel when it comes to it.

There was a lot of handshaking today which took me rather by surprise - I must admit I couldn’t wait to reach for the hand sanitiser by the time everyone had gone! I’ve not shaken a hand for 18 months or more.
