Mary's Shell
This is a marvellous sculpture, which looks as if it's made from metal but is actually made with concrete. Sited in a prominent position in the beach at Thornton Cleveleys just north of Blackpool, it seems ignored by most people. I first came across this structure in a competition I was judging (I think it was South Liverpool) and resolved to visit one day. Today was the day!
We then went in search of a ruin from my book of Wild Ruins. This took some finding, and even harder was finding somewhere to park our motorhome while we didn't the ruin! It was worth the hunt although it might not look much (extra) and Pepper had a lovely time retrieving a stick from the stream around this old ruin. It had been a thriving cotton spinning factory in its day!
Last stop was the Ribblehead viaduct. Very impressive but it does really need a steam train running over the top!
