Sorry you have to leave

This is a screenshot from a heart rending clip showing an Afghanistani female reporter who is leaving her country for good because of the threat to her life.

The reporter talking to her can't hold back her tears. And this sort of tragedy will be playing out hundreds of times across the country in the days to come.

I guess there are many reasons for what we see unfolding before us. It seems surreal to be sitting in perfect safety and comfort in my garden in the UK, enjoying a glass of wine under the evening sun, while several thousand miles away an entire country slips back into the dark ages.

But where was my concern for that country during the last 20 years of war/occupation/whatever it was?
