Freight train

We’re heading west.

The landscape has changed from lush semi tropical; first to cane fields and now to ‘cattle country’! Suddenly everywhere is flat and arid. The trees are no more than 2-3 metres high.

Cattle in inland Queensland are raised on vast stations the size of small European countries. The dry land generally only has enough feed to support less than one head per acre. Small groups of cattle are occasionally seen.

The highway travels west in a straight line, accompanied by the railway line. The trucks get bigger, morphing into ‘road trains’. I’ll get a photo of a road train for tomorrow.

Another day and we’ll be in the desert.
