A wonderful day

We had a great day, starting with a 9 mile round walk from the campsite to Dabshead, a hill fort with a great standing stone. It was a varied walk, following a small section of the 214 mile Southern Uplands Way. Then we took a forestry track eventually finding our way onto the hill. The day was perfect for walking - a slight breeze but mostly sunny.

Katy was too poorly with her cough to come
- Colin kindly made us a cup of tea on our return. I had a shower and read my book in the sun (“On Chapel Sands”) then we loaded the van with their picnic stuff, chairs Andover theirs blankets, as well as those of their friends Dee and Phil who had arrived with their tent. Iain drove Katy (in mask) to the car park while the rest of us walked up to the castle where we set out our shared picnic and wine to get into the proper mood.

It provided a perfect backdrop for the Scottish play, performed by the HandleBards, three women who cycle round Britain doing their very energetic and fun show. We were in stitches and in awe of their talent - singing, dancing, playing instruments and acting all the parts in different accents. Colin was chosen to ring a bike bell at appropriate points. He loved it.

By the end we were all wrapped up in coats and blankets but the walk back warmed us up. A great day.
