Who wants a snowball fght? or who wants a fight?

Had a sneaky day off today so I got to take daughter number 1 to nursery. We got well wrapped up and arrived a good 15 minutes before opening up time so took the opportunity to have a wee bit of a jolly jape in the snow. Much hilarity was had indeed. However, there were a few other early arrivees who were not really up for some jolly winter japes and turned the air blue because they were not getting let in early. As my good running buddy calls them, Scheme Goblins whch is a very apt title in my opinion.

What a fantastic night we had doing accreditation 1 at the Chris Hoy Velodrome last night. Riding a fixed wheel bike with no brakes is a little bit disconcerting at first but you soon get into it. You have to learn to you muscles that you didn't know you had to slow yourself down through a combination of fighting the resistence of the pedals and using the banking. It is not until you see it close up and personal that you truly appreciate just how steep it is. After a lot of drills and going round the track practicing, we got to the real fun part - 5 laps above the red line at full pelt. We were sent off in groups of 4 and told just to go for it, shouting coming through when you needed to pass somebody and ensuring you go round the outside. Big Iain set off at some pace and overtook the lead rider on the back straight. I built up a bit of speed on the front straight and decided to take him too. If had more experience I would have waited until we got round the corner and taken him on the back straight like Iain, however, enthusiasm got the better of me and before I knew it I was high up on the banking shoutng "coming through". I slowed down a fraction while I powered up the slope while he seemed to speed up and suddenly I was regretting not waiting and then all of a sudden I was slungshot out on to the back straight and I was past him and absolutely flying. I kept this speed up for the next 4 laps and finished way out of breath but absolutely pumped!

We all passed the course so roll on next Thursday for level 2!
