Ullswater

My friend texted after she’d dropped her daughter off at SolFest asking if I fancied swimming after work and then called by to pick me up. We weren’t sure where to go but ended up back at the ‘grim’ Monday spot because the other place that we had gone to on Tuesday looked inundated with people.
We swam. Everything feels unsettling. We talked about Afghanistan, work, childhood, a general feeling of everything hurtling towards oblivion. The loss of our swim spot has impacted in complicated ways, a loss of a safe place, of regularity, stability, continuity, in an unstable world at just about every level.
