Speckled Wood?

It seems to me that pictures in books almost never look like what you seein the field, hence the ? in the title.
A largely overcast day with short periods of warm sun this afternoon, I didn't expect to see much insect life and so I didn't take my macro lens. This was the closest that I could get.
