A Fleeting Forever, Rochester

Rochester is a place I visit often and yet I never fail to see the majesty in it's cathedral and the Norman castle, both of which feature in today's image. Yet every time I go there I see something different and photography is rather brilliant at capturing a fleeting moment in time that is frozen forever. I really loved the contrast between the "forever" permanence of the castle keep and the cathedral against the fleeting preparation for a Bank Holiday event relating to Dickens.
Of course, Dickens is the other omnipresent presence in the town having written many of his novels in the Swiss chalet (see the extra shot) that used to sit in the garden of his house, Gads Hill Place. It now sits on a site just off the High Street and is awaiting repair and conservation once the fundraising has reached £100,000. At the moment it is supported inside by steel props and is off limits to the public.
An interesting fact about Rochester is that is was a city for 800 years until 1998 when it lost it's status due to an apparent oversight by Rochester-Upon-Medway City Council. It has still not regained it in the twenty three years since!
