Sunflower

Last year a local farmer left the edge of one field free of crops and grew wild flowers.  This year he planted the whole field with Oilseed rape.  It appears he left some sunflower seeds in the ground last year as he ploughed because sporadic clumps have appeared in amongst the rapeseed.  It is great for the bees as you can see here, with two feasting on the nectar in this flower head.  The flowers provide pockets of yellow as the  crop slowly turns black before harvest.
