Independence Mine

Started the day early with a four hour hike along Eklutna Lake. Then, with a lunch stop in Palmer, we drove up to this old gold mine, which closed in 1951. Fascinating history there. Then up to Hatcher Pass, where paragliders were enjoying their craft. It is such beautiful country, the fall colors making it all the more beautiful! Did not see any bears, but we kept making all kinds of noise to announce our arrival.
