The Wall, Rye Harbour

We were going to go to a proper seaside destination again today but being a Bank Holiday it was, of course, dull, grey and gently spitting with rain. We also wanted to avoid the crowds as the local news was saying everywhere was going to be mobbed anyway so we chose Rye instead. It was mobbed.
However, we did manage to squeeze into a busy tearoom to have a toasted sandwich and coffee for lunch and very nice it was too.
Rye is a Cinque Port but due to the shifting of the coastline over the centuries is now three miles from the sea. The only way to see the sea is to go to Rye Harbour which in times past was a fishing village and is now mostly known for it's nature reserve. It was also mobbed so rather than take a shot of all the people I took an image of this rather beautiful wall that protects one of the Martello towers!
