The Color Purple
Hot and humid again with showers forecast later this evening. We are expecting heavy rains from the remnants of Hurricane Ida beginning tomorrow afternoon. Our calendar was blank today for a change so we were lazy. Hubby used the push mower for awhile and did some paperwork. I endured the heat/sweat outdoors for two hours but did not finish deadheading the butterfly bushes. Got a nice bucket of tomatoes, peppers and beets from the garden. Years ago, a friend gave me one purple sweet basil plant for my herb garden. These plants show up all over our property now. The foliage is pretty and the aroma is spicy so, what the heck, I enjoy the volunteers. There will be flower spires later. There are lemon verbena and oregano patches scattered about as well, thinking those fragrances would deter the deer. No luck. Our well water contains too much sulphur and hard minerals. We installed filters in the water line to improve the taste and smell but they are not enough. Lately, we have had to put in bleach if we are away from home for a week or more because the smell is nasty. Usually it is very diluted but it really burned my eyes today while showering. Hubby is researching a chlorination system and our BIL will install it. Fingers crossed. Made chicken salad for lunch and will have whatever our daughter-in-law sent for dinner. The kids all did well being back in school. Let’s hope it continues. Thanks for stopping by folks. Stay safe. “Fresh herbs really belong anywhere you put them.” - Alex Guarnaschelli
