Field Of Dreams

Of all U.K sports perhaps the one that has suffered the most during the pandemic is Rugby Union. Aside from the top tier in England playing to empty stadiums there have been no spectators at rugby matches or any grassroots rugby matches since Saturday 21 March 2020.
I imagine that like a lot of other rugby clubs Falmouth has struggled to get senior players to train or commit to the club, the youth and academy structures have all but disappeared and off field the club appears to be in disarray.
The ongoing argument of “are we a rugby club or a social club” continues in the background, this difference of opinion will be decided by the ‘punters’. The clubhouse, whilst promoting itself as the “centre of the community” is in fact geographically isolated from the rest of town so if you were to start your night out here it’s a walk to the next watering hole.

Anyway on to today, the club put out a team to play our only pre season friendly, I had to leave at half time - Dads Taxis. We were winning 10-5 but went on to lose 10-13, this was against lower league opposition.
Let’s not hope this is a sign of the season to come.
