Things To Do In Glasgow Before You're Dead

#1 Go to a gig at the Glasgow Barrowlands.

If you have ever even had the most passing interest in popular music then this place should be on your pilgrimage list. It's small, it's a bit down at heel, in a down at heel part of town, but a combination of superb acoustics, a sprung dance floor and 1,800 fans that are really up for it makes this possibly the greatest rock venue in the world (testimony here.)

Over the years I've been lucky enough to see the likes of Alice Cooper, INXS, Hothouse Flowers, The Waterboys, Gun, Stereophonics, Catatonia, Counting Crows (Duritz was a bit concerned about the crowds "exhuberance"...we're OK Adam...get on with it!!), Aztec Camera and many more. The pinnacle for me was seeing the Pogues perform in 88 or 89 (memory....??!!). Kirsty McColl came on and did Fairytale Of New York and Joe Strummer came on and they did three Clash songs. Can't believe Joe and Kirsty are gone and Shane is still with us (wouldn't have put money on that at the time).

So last night of was the turn of Doves, Manchester indie band (check them out they are brilliant). They did an excellent set and as usual the crowd was "up for it". Songs played, hearfelt praise from Jimi Goodwin ("I ***king love the Barrows, don't ever paint this place it'll ruin it".....we agreed) and another great Barrowlands night in the bag.

If any of you are taking a trip to Scotland give this some thought and check out who is playing (well in advance mind!!). I'll even be your guide if you want. Just don't wear anything you'd not want beer spilt on.

This is post 101. I was absolutely astounded with the response I got for 100. Thankyou to everybody that left me a comment I'll get round to thanking you all personally in due course. By early evening last night I had surpassed 10,000 views, I was really emotional at that point. My pictures have been viewed 10,000!!!! I still find this utterly mind blowing. To my new subscribers; wlecome aboard, hopefully I'll have some cool things to show you over the summer.
