Falkland Palace
After nearly two years without going out to any cultural activity it was quite a shock today to visit Falkland Palace, a favourite country retreat for Scottish nobility particularly Mary Queen of Scots.
Its less than an hours drive from our home yet we have only visited this pretty conservation village of Falkland once many years ago with visitors on a wet afternoon. Yet it has great deal to recommend it, not only is the Palace an architectural gem and the home of real tennis, the game was invented here, but Outlander fans will know it for its setting in this historical series.
(We have decided on a series of “staycations” and this is the first of our day trips.)
PS. Unfortunately photography inside the palace is forbidden.
