Northern Pintail #80
Another dry day, so another trip to try and find some new birds. We ended up at WWT Martin Mere again, but there were very few waders which is what I need to add to this years tally. Loads of geese and quite a few raptors hunting in the distance - Kestrels, Marsh Harriers, Buzzards and a hobby. None within shooting distance in the light we had. We saw this duck right in front of one of the screens by the main pool and I thought it looked a bit different to the multitude of mallards that were around. Turns out it was a Northern Pintail, maybe just arrived to overwinter here in the UK. They don't often breed here but plenty come around this time and stay until the start of March.
We also enjoyed seeing the pair of Asian Short toed otters in their enclosure as they are not often out and about. In fact this is only the second time we've seen them (extra).
