Matinee

The audience spills out after the afternoon performance of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying by Edinburgh Musical Theatre. We knew a number of people in the cast and it was good to see them up on stage doing their stuff. Some great ensemble pieces - the tap-dancing typing pool was a real treat. The sexual politics of the piece are a little dated but that's not surprising really for a musical written in the 1960s, based on a book written the previous decade. The group played it in a rather cartoon way, with some witty cartoon props, and excellent costumes. Maybe lacked any truly memorable songs, but some good group choreography and plenty of energy that probably got as much out of the piece as there is to get.
