Digging in green manure

I sometimes use green manure as ground cover on the plot - this area around microbeds at the front of the plot had a lot of couch grass so I weeded what I could in the spring and sowed a green manure spring mix, which I strimmed and kept short all spring and summer.

I plan to sow grass seeds for heavy clay in the autumn, which means the green manure needed dug in 6 weeks ahead of that job. It was hard work as, even with a rainy summer, the soil was like concrete.

But it's very satisfying to know the green manure goodness will start enriching the soil.
