Two out of Three - Not Bad
Three football games this weekend , two wins - not bad at all! When we build a really good Scotland team we might just manage three out of three.
Last night at Hampden there was a long spell after the first dreadful 20 minutes which shall be dismissed from memory, we actually began to think a win was within our grasp, then that wonderful goal just before half time. Euphoria!!!!!
A strange and unacceptable yellow card in the first half coupled with a deserved yellow card in the second half led to a sending off, a penalty which if you slow down the action on telly can be seen to have taken place outside the box and we have Cardiff October 2012 all over again. Having said that a team should be good enough to win without worrying about referee's and linesmen's pet foibles.
Any way it was up to our beloved grandson and his team as well as our other " Sons" to make the weekend that bit more happy.
First off at eleven o'clock this morning a group of the much maligned age group ( teenagers no lesss) had yet another attempt to play a charity game which had been cancelled so many times because of weather. Today they were determined to play and started at 11 clearing the astro turf pitch of several inches of snow for a 1:30 kick off. They made some inroads into the clearing operation in front of the goals but not enough for the game to go ahead. So they played anyway for the 90 minutes without the official referee as a practice game having postponed the actual charity match yet again. Brave souls the pitch was covered in thick patchy snow and the wind would have cut through you. Our grandson scored the first goal with his team going on to win 7-4. Brave souls and all very fit and guess what ! Not an injury , not a feigned dive as we see in international football , the stand in referee was the teenager who has organised this event to thank Yorkhill hospital by raising funds for it. He was consistent and very fair, wish they were all like that in professional football. Not an argument either from the players.
Then the icing on the cake. We listened to the Sons game on the way home Dunfermline was too far away to get to from the charity game. very exciting open mike reporting. Sons, 2-0 down then brought it to 2-1 , then they were 3-1 down and still fought on to eventually win 4-3. A great weekend for Sons fans.
meant to say the blip image is our grandson whose kick had been saved by the keeper but he is moving in to get it on the rebound, he did, well pleased he was but no overdone celebrations here, just got on with the game.
The quality of the image is not the best because I was shooting through one of those high security fences round the school astro turf pitch and you can just see the grid lines of the cross hatching of the fence in places.
