Etched in time
Silverback file:
Enzo had a little job to do at the Furry Godmother Dog Spa, so the Sparrow and I took ourself off to the annual Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders Art Awards, hosted by Darwin Art Gallery & Museum.
We were most moved by these ink on paper etchings made using uniforms provided to indigenous children removed from their families and placed in the Myora Mission on Nth Stradbroke Island Qld. (1892-96).
This was all part of the colonial government’s ‘assimilation’ process of that time. Happily times have changed. Though many would say not enough.
