Wedding Anniversary
Woke up to vivid blue skies just like on our wedding day 15 years ago! Delicious breakfast - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, toast, yogurt and mixed fresh fruit, croissant and a cuppa. Checked out of our hotel. The receptionist told me that they are full this week and next week too. Folks are enjoying back in the road again:)
Shockingly we have never been to the visitor centre and battlefield at Culloden! The visitor centre has a very good description as you walk through with a timeline of events with the Jacobites on the right and government on the left followed by a room with pictures and sounds of the battlefield. It was heart wrenching.
The conditions of the battlefield were nothing like how it was on 16 April 1746! 26 degrees on 8 September! We wandered Round the site which has the gravestones of clans at various places and markers where the two armies battled from……. I’ve bought a NT book on Culloden to further understand the real story of before , during and after the battle.
After this and being still full from the giant breakfast we decided to stop off on our way home at Rothiemurchas, a place with special memories of many holidays here with the boys. We sat on the banks at Loch an Eilean (one of my fav Scottish lochs) and watched folks swimming, canoeing and paddleboarding. This is where this anniversary photo was taken.
Stopped off at House of Bruar for a toilet break and of course had to buy a few things. It was 5 pm and still so warm! Bruar has grown in size so much since I was last there.
End of a lovely mini break, four days of exploring and walking in beautiful scenery eating good, delicious food in warm weather! Fabulous. When’s the next one?
