Floating Head
This is the Floating Head sculpture by artist Richard Groom made with the help of some out of work former shipbuilders. It is 7 meters long and weighs around 27 tonnes.
It was a big hit at the Glasgow Garden Fetival in 1988. After the Festival it went 'missing' for many years but eventually turned up in a scrapyard. I actually tracked it down in the scrapyard a couple of years ago as I was going to photograph it for the Sculpture Project but it was in such a state I didn't bother.
It has had a bit of refurbishment recently before they towed it here, but as you can see, more is needed. One point if interest is that it actually has a toilet inside!
