On our way to Ilkley we stopped at the American cemetery just outside Cambridge where I like to pause and reflect. On this day the flag flew at half mast and a message from Joe Biden was posted.
There is a beautiful chapel and a very interesting Visitors' Centre which I have visited on a previous occasion.
I am of that generation whose fathers served in WW2. My father went over on Day 30 of D-day with REME. He is one of those who rather enjoyed his war years. Some of my friends' fathers were not so lucky as POWs of the Japanese .
