Cornwall - The Lizard Coast

Twenty years ago the world looked on in horror as the Twin Towers collapsed in an unimaginable act of terrorism. Most people old enough to remember that event can tell you exactly where they were when this unforgettable event was unfolding before their eyes. On a happier note, twenty eight years ago on this same day, Gavin and I got married. I also remember everything about that day but thankfully it was a joyous occasion.

We did plan to leave early to drive to Cornwall but then had things to do so ended up leaving late morning - Gavin went for a run (he is running in the London Marathon again in a few weeks time so his training is at an important stage). I also had a short run, repacked things in my suitcase - will it be hot or cold? When it’s 20C at home it is hot and lately quite humid, but 20C at the coast can be cool if there is a stiff breeze. Xena needed a walk, I did some last minute laundry, and then saying goodbye to Tommy we set off.

The journey south to Cornwall is not an easy one as the road infrastructure through certain parts of Somerset and Devon is quite poor. The roads get narrow and the services get grottier in certain areas. It always takes so much longer than you expect as there is always so much traffic. It’s too far to go for just the 2 days of the photography workshop, which is why Gavin and Xena came with me and we will enjoy 3 days together before the workshop starts. Well one of those days is in the car all day….

We arrived at the hotel after a 7 hour journey - it was a very slow and long journey to travel only 380 miles. The hotel is situated on a cliff overlooking the sea, this is the view we saw when we arrived. The hotel seems very pleasant, even if the rooms are a little tired. It is very dog friendly and Xena has already made friends with another Hungarian Vizsla staying here!

We are now off to supper, our anniversary dinner at the hotel.
