Mullion Cove
First of all, wow, wow wow...Emma Raducanu has gone from school girl to world wide tennis sensation in the space of a few months. She did so well to win the US Open at the young age of 18 years old, and the UK is very proud of their newest champion.
We had a good breakfast at the hotel and then set off on a walk. The coastal path is easily accessed from the hotel and we planned to walk from the hotel, which is near Mullion, to Lizard Point which we believed was 5 miles away. Lizard Point is the most southerly point in the U.K. and has a lighthouse there that I wanted to see.
The path was up and down but not strenuous. The views of the coastline were lovely and there were some pretty bays like Mullion Cove, as can be seen here. In the extras you can see the harbour at this cove and in the distance our hotel on the clifftop. Today it was cloudy but quite warm and after an hour and a half of walking we discovered that Lizard Point was still 4 miles away, so we had got the distance wrong, it’s actually about an 8 miles hike from the hotel. We decided to turn back as the mist was closing in and we did not want to spend all day walking - we had walked over 10km by the time we got back to the hotel.
We then headed off in the car to Marazion to see St Michael’s Mount. We have not been there since our honeymoon 28 years ago! It was shrouded in mist but as we ate lunch at a cafe overlooking it the mist lifted and it got much brighter. An image of it in extras. Xena had fun playing on the beach before we went to see Penzance, which we only drove through, and then on to Porthleven where we stopped and walked around. It’s a very charming harbour town and apparently is fast becoming one of the foodie destinations in Cornwall!
It was a good day out and we did a lot of walking, but when we got back to the hotel Gavin went for a run on the coastal path which was quite tough up and down.
Tomorrow the weather forecast is for rain :( Everyone else on the photography workshop arrives and we meet up tomorrow evening.
