Journey to the End of the World
Preston Bus Station is an icon of modernist architecture, and so divides opinion sharply. Recently its very survival was threatened by a planned town centre redevelopment. This spoken word event last night sought to celebrate the bus station, both as a building and more importantly as a public space constantly filled and refilled with people on a million journeys for a myriad reasons. The audience were given headsets and led around the building for a succession of performances. The final one, given in the café by Phil Ormrod (below), was the standout. I also liked the choir, but my companion (incidentally a frequent user of the bus station) was slightly more critical.
