FROM THE GARDEN

Imperfect and yet so special, we picked these grapes, quinces, pomegranates and figs this morning. Store bought fruit seems so perfect.
We share the garden with the birds and other creatures and have got used to the marks on the fruit and imperfections in the vegetables. The flavour is out of this world.
The pomegranates will be squeezed and the juice turned into a deep burgandy cordial that is delicious with icecream.
The quinces are stewed with sugar, lemon and some raisins and bottled for a rainy day.
The green grapes are called Hanepoot and taste like honey. We bag most of our grapes in muslin bags to keep them from the birds. The bunches hang on the vine for months gaining in juice and sweetness. We discovered an overlooked bunch of grapes in July last year when we did the Winter pruning. They were utterly delicious.
