The walk along the coast from Gullane is fairly varied starting off through sand dunes, then past a ruined chapel before a series of beaches which are mostly sandy..Then low cliffs afford views towards the lighthouse on Fidra and towards the distant Bass Rock before returning to sandy beaches between Yellowcraigs and North Berwick. It was then an easy flat walk along the John Muir Way back to Gullane. (Extra) On the way we had past the propellor cairn and were very grateful for the rope enabling us to climb the steep slope on to the cliff path as the tide was too high to scramble across the rocks.
As we were drove back we noticed a large crowd watching a reenactment of the Battle of Prestonpans in 1745 where the Jacobite army under Bonnie Prince Charlie overcame the Government troops led by General John Cope despite the Scots being smaller in number and badly equipped.  The little boy was telling everyone to cover their ears at the sound of the muskets and cannons and the last picture shows several of the dead Redcoats.
