Stop!….

…..hammer time!

I spent the afternoon with Laura and Mama A today at a jewellery making workshop.
It was ACE!!!!

The guy running the course was great, taking time to explain it all as we went along and was on hand to supervise each stage.

I thought the experience warranted a collage. Top left shows the strip of silver which went on to become the wide, hammered ring in the main photo. The subsequent photos show the various stages to get to the end result.

The process was actually pretty straightforward and I was fascinated with how the solder got kind of sucked into the joint with the heat. This was then filed until you could no longer see the joint.

We all paid extra to create another ring; I chose to make a stacker ring with a lapis lazuli stone. I was the only person (out of 9 people) that chose to do this on a beaded band and there were a few regretful faces when they saw how lovely mine was.

What I loved most of all was the fact I can wear them and say ‘I made them’

If anyone is interested, the workshop was by a firm called ‘Noctua’. They are based in Liverpool, but also offer workshops around the North West. They also do workshops for pendants and bangles too; we are already planning what we want to do next! ;-)
