Silsden
Today’s the day ............... to cast off
Barbara’s Drum was the name of our narrowboat and we (Sue and Howie, t’other Sue, Will and I) were heading out for a week’s trip on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.
We were starting from the small town of Silsden, near Keighley, West Yorkshire and planned to travel eastwards to Leeds and then back again. It’s a total distance of about 46 miles by road and in a car, it would take you about an hour and a half – but for us, it would take the full week and would involve lots of going down and going up in canal locks. It would also involve The Bingley Five Rise – but more of that anon.
We were just so happy to be back together again after all the traumas of Covid and Lockdowns - and looking forward to the week’s adventure ..............
