Saltaire

Today’s the day ............... for architecture
 
It’s a wonderful thing that, no matter how long it is since you’ve been on a canal, it takes literally two minutes before it all comes flooding back and you feel as if you’ve never been away.
 
So we soon got underway this morning and after negotiating The Bingley Five Rise (but more of that anon!) we found ourselves in the fascinating town of Saltaire.  It was in the 19th Century that Sir Titus Salt chose to build his textile mills and a village for his workers here, by the River Aire and the Leeds – Liverpool Canal.  Today, Saltaire enjoys World Heritage Status and its architecture remains much the same as it was in Titus Salt’s day.
 
It offers many ways to spend a few pleasant hours – not least for the artist wishing to capture its magnificent buildings on canvas ....................
