Sunset over New York
Saturday
The day we’ve been looking forward to for so long - flying back to England to see the family, for the first time since Christmas 2019! We left for the airport at about 10.45, leaving plenty of time for check-in, given the Covid regulations we had to follow and document. We had to have a test within 3 days of departure, all documented on the government website, then we have to do a pre-booked, self- administered one on Day 2 which we drop off at a collection station, and get the result back within 24 hours. We were supposed to have been flying to Manchester via JFK, but a couple of weeks ago they notified us they had changed our flights - we were now flying to Heathrow! The lady at the Delta desk in Cincinnati carefully perused our documents, which we had a hard copy of, as well as on our phones just to be safe, and our boarding passes were marked Docs (Documents) OK. We had a good flight to JFK, and an easy transfer - a long walk, but remaining within security so we didn’t have to go through that again. We had close to 2 hours waiting at the gate, then just before boarding they announced that anyone who didn’t have a white slip of paper would need to get one from the desk, so Roger had to wait in line to get all the papers checked again, before we could board - I’m not sure why they couldn’t have made the announcement about an hour previously! Anyway, we eventually got on board - we weren’t the last - and got settled in our seats. I would say the plane was only about half full. As you can see from my blip, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset as we took off. We had dinner and I watched the film The Father, which I’ve been wanting to see for a while, then I tried, largely unsuccessfully, to get some sleep. We must have had a tail wind, as the flight was less than 6 hours - so there wasn’t much time for sleep anyway!
