Under a bushel...
The rivers in Asturias are mostly short and sharp - they rise in the high mountains and travel a relatively short distance to the sea. On their way, in the latter half of the 19th century and beyond, they provided the main motive power for the flour mills that the local economy depended on. For example, outside Villaviciosa, the Río Profundo has in a short stretch - about 8km - a dozen or so mills. All are non-functioning, some are totally ruined, some are somewhere close to ruin. Among them this one, the molín de villaverde.
The main shows the mill, obscured by the undergrowth that has swallowed up some of its neighbours but still visible. The extras show (1) the interior of the ruin (the best of the 3 photos, I think), and (2) the river.
