Diary of an Edinburgher

Double Dougal!

The flu jab notice we got the other day has to be changed - we won’t be in Edinburgh on the day they want us. This has proved to be problematic. I’ve hung the phone for ages listening to pop music, only to be told that the website isn’t ‘up and running’ yet. I’ve tried every day to book on the website, hoping that it was suddenly ‘up and running’. But no. The woman I spoke to today was most apologetic, as there are NO other appointments for the foreseeable future. ‘We’ve sent out 200,000 appointment letters’ she explained. Might just book to have it done at a chemist…

I was at the recycling bin this morning, when who should wander by but Dougal and his mum. His usual enthusiastically animated greeting, then he sat nicely while we chatted. I pointed out to Christine that she ought to be careful - her laces were undone. She sighed and said that Dougal does every time she stops. So that he can do THIS (Extra). He LOVES hair. What a boy!

We got the exciting news with the date of the arrival of the new sofas…

er… TOMORROW!

Panic stations. We need to dispose of our old sofas. Fast. Which is just not possible, so first we rang and changed the date. Charity shops are (rightly) picky with furniture - our sofas have an old (1988) fire safety certificate, which might not be sufficient these days. I could put them on Freecycle, but people always ask, ‘Can you deliver?’ And anyway, it could take ages.

So, Plan B - a council uplift, and we can set the date. It’s such a shame, as they’re perfectly good sofas, just a bit weary. So, it’s all organised, and we’ll have to stand around for only one evening.

I took Archie for a walk up to the cemetery, and who should we meet but Dougal and his mum. Archie was off-lead, and well ahead of me, Dougal was on his lead. They made a run for each other, with different intentions. Archie knocked Dougal on his back and stood over him, but Christine was there to prevent any further aggression. In fact, there was no Archie growling, I think he was just showing who was the boss. It’s a real nuisance, as we don’t see Christine as much now, and can’t just pop in (if we have Archie). Maybe after wee Dougal has had his operation…

Christine had just been for lunch at the new wee Asian inspired cafe on the corner. So I popped in and got a vegan poke bowl to takeaway. Very yummy it was too. I’ll be back.
