Tasting amongst the vines
We’ve now moved on to Guildford and today’s activity is a vineyard tour and wine tasting at Greyfriars - wonderfully relaxing after yesterday’s culture-fest.
Yesterday’s sunshine has disappeared behind thick cloud, and drizzle threatens to make our tour a gloomy event.
The Greyfriars tour - with the wonderfully informative Kathryn - is an outdoors affair, and fortunately as we start the drizzle dissipates and the skies lighten. We’ve undertaken many vineyard tours in various parts of the world, and this is one of the best - celebrating English wine and explaining the intricacies of producing an excellent sparking wine using méthode champenoise.
And there really is something very special about a wine tasting in the vineyard itself - especially as the skies clear and the late afternoon sun illuminates the ripening grapes and autumnal vine leaves. Magical.
I’m very tempted to choose the sunlit wineglass as my main - but I’m not sure whether this will be considered as advertising, so I’ve gone for sunlit grapes instead - others in extras!
