Dervaig Community Orchard: Apple Day

This sturdy looking fire pit was most welcome, made and looked after by N, doesn’t it look good!

A fabulous day at the orchard with over a hundred locals along with their youngsters joining in. The pizza trailer arrived at 11.00 with slices of pizza after pizza cooked and eaten with gusto, I’m not kidding, adults and children loved them, what a hit! Masses of home baked cakes arrived, they looked delicious as always and by 3.00 had all but disappeared. After eating and still chatting mums and children went off collecting apples from the orchard, this must be what it’s all about.

At 3.00, it rained, no …. it poured down …. The event was due to finish around 3.00, I was chatting and tootling when John came over and pointed at the sky, there looming over the orchard was this ugly black cloud, a quick dismantling and packing up the car and home, rather wet but only for a few minutes, I think we all felt grateful it held off until 3.00.

What a great success and congratulations to the Community Orchard Committee, of whom Boomerang is an active member.
The lovely man stood on a table is our chairman, he was giving a thank you speech, he is such a key player in community activities, I’m sure he felt overwhelmed with yesterday’s turnout. The apple store was starting to look festive, the photo shows the early part of the day when setting up cakes, games, drinks…
