Caves and wynds

A good start to the day - blue sky and fluffy clouds! We drove the short distance along the coast to Pittenweem, which has a history going back to early medieval times. It has the largest fishing fleet in the East Neuk and an extensive harbour full of boats.

We spent the morning there and I could write pages about it, but won't. There are a number of alleys, or wynds, connecting the harbour with the more modern streets above, and halfway up Cove Wynd is St Fillan's cave, which can be accessed by borrowing the key (for £1) from the Chocolate Café on the street above. Fortunately for us, who were on the way down, a couple were just emerging and agreed to wait a few minutes while we had a quick look. They then  locked up and took the key back. We left a donation instead! This a picture of the two of them setting off up the path.

My first extra today is of a beautiful statue on the harbourside, with and inscription which says "This memorial is dedicated to the men and women who make their living from the sea and to those who have lost their lives in so doing." It looks better from the front, but then the view out to sea is lost. The second extra is a general view of the town.

This afternoon we drove to St Andrews and had a wander through the Botanic Gardens, where I had a couple of lovely conversations with members of staff and bought a couple of plants!!
