Diary of an Edinburgher

Jersey Day Three

We walked across the road from the hotel this morning to a cafe that hasn’t been open so far (local holiday) and it was well worth waiting for. It’s called the ‘Work cafe’ and it’s affiliated to Santander Bank. Great coffee, superb granola or chia breakfast pots, and good - not screechy - music. We called the waitress over and requested one in Edinburgh. What a great concept! It was busy, too, on a Tuesday morning - all the (free) workspaces (upstairs) were busy. And I’m already looking forward to my breakfast tomorrow!

We had a dander round a few shops - De Gruchy - which is like a John Lewis, only with 20% tax off because we’re on Jersey - although we have no room in our tiny suitcases, a couple of bargains were bought - I will just need to wear a couple more things on the way home.

We then got the bus to Anne & Bob’s house for some freshly made soup. Then we decided to go for a (short) walk along a (small) beach - Greve de Lecq. We’ve been there before, to the rather super cafe which serves amazing fish ’n’ chips. But it’s closed at the moment (a lot of ‘not being able to get staff’). We arrived just as it decided to pour. So a walk along the beach was abandoned in favour of a further search (in the car) for scones and coffees. This proved to be fruitless - every place we tried was closed - either for the winter, or permanently, of just suddenly for the afternoon. Though we did have a bonus visit to La Corbière Lighthouse, though I was the only one who got out of the car and braved the wind!

No worries, we did not NEED a scone. We came back to the house and had a perfectly good plunger coffee, while we reminisced, and sampled the Cava we brought, then their favourite Cremant. We were doing quality control. Both were delcared ’very quaffable’.

Anne rustled up a delicious lemony pasta, and we had noted the bus times back into town because we wanted to pop in to the `Blue Note Bar’. We’d looked in when we passed in the morning, because we heard nice laid back jazz music. We weren’t too late, so we got a table, sampled their ‘Liberation Beer’ and we could have stayed there all evening... And it was just round the corner from our hotel.

Back to the hotel after another most pleasant day on Jersey, with a visit to our favourite - St Brelade’s Bay tomorrow. And it’s supposed to be the best day, weather-wise.
