Small artichokes

As we have a Centenary Autumn Show on Sunday at my allotment I decided to dig up some Jerusalem artichokes to see if they are big enough to put in the show. As you can see they are still very small but…maybe other people’s are too? Many I dug up were much much smaller! There are usually not many entries in each class and when I entered some not much bigger a few years ago I got a prize! The soil was very dry when I dug them up so it’s not surprising they are not big, the stems and leaves are still looking healthy and not flowering yet so I am hopeful they may get bigger in the next few weeks.
