Jersey Day Five

This morning we were up and out early - no sitting around in the cafe over the delicious breakfast pots, for we were saving our appetites for lunch. We took the bus to Gorey. The castle and harbour is most picturesque. We had a bit of a walk, the inevitable scone and coffee, and got the bus back again, this time by a different route.

A dander through town with a bit of window shopping, then back to the hotel for a relax and to use the wifi to confirm with our pals that we’d booked the Quayside Restaurant. We’d been there on our last island visit and very much enjoyed it.

We met the others there, the place was very busy. Excellent service and delicious meals. We all had something different, and we all thought we’d chosen well. Mine was so good, it deserves to be mentioned in full, and I want a photo to remember it by:
Pan fried Jersey sea bass with a creamed saffron and mussel sauce, asparagus, sprouting broccoli and new potatoes. Mussel, Pernod and saffron sauce. EPIC!

Nobody could manage a dessert, though I was very tempted with the bread and butter pudding…

We took Anne and Bob to our favourite pub - the Blue Note - because they have never been there. Groovy jazz soundtrack and a couple of halfs of Liberation beer were enjoyed. 

7,692 steps were enough for me - I came back to relax, and I was quite glad it clouded over and wasn’t a nice sunset which might have lured me back out. JR went for a walk around town, but came back empty-handed, thankfully, as she was window shopping in jewellery shops!

The photo bottom left is of one of the main streets (busy, innit?) with the famous ‘Toad on a Stick’ statue. While I was waiting on a nearby bench I started to read the writing on the pole, and it’s all rather gruesome punishments for various crimes. (You can just read it if you enlarge). Why? It’s the site of the original prison.

One final treat tomorrow before we head home. Yes - involving food…

Wanted to note today the trial of the Sarah Everard murderer. He’s got ‘whole life’ - which means he’ll die in prison. It’s an extremely upsetting crime, the details of which have come out. I can’t stop thinking about that poor young woman. And her devastated family. I do hope this is a turning point in the acceptance of male violence on women. 

A few videos arrived today of Archie relaxing on Derek’s lap. Yay!
