St Jakob's Church

It has snowed non-stop for 2 days now and because of the poor visibilty we decided not to ski today...again! The joys of a skiing holiday. We went for a long walk in the snow around the village and I took a few photos but to be honest everything looked awful with the low mist and lack of colour.

This is St Jakob's Church, dating back to 1492 and the only remnant of the medieval monastery from which the village took its name. Its windows were painted by Augusto Giacometti. It sometimes has music concerts there which we have previously attended, and at Christmas time it is packed to the rafters for the English speaking carol service.

The statue in front is of a Steinbok, a local type of antelope which is indigenous to the area. Apparently one can sometimes see them perched on top of a craggy peak in the winter but we have never been so lucky.

Hopefully tomorrow the weather will be better and we can do some skiing. But then again I am enjoying my book...
