Re-reading

I have heard quite a lot of people say that since the pandemic they are reading less than they used to. Recently I have also heard people say that they are rereading old favourites more often, rather than new books. This has certainly been my experience. I have nearly finished Bleak House, which I have read quite a few times over the years, and will then move on to Middlemarch, also a re-read.
 
It could be because we find comfort in the familiar. I don't think that can be the whole story though, because often the pleasure in re-reading comes from discovering something in the book that you haven't seen before. So maybe Covid  gives us time to discover the new.
