Clearing cucumber plants
Night temperatures have dropped recently and as a result, the cucumber plants have stopped growing.
I've composted them and cleared an area at the front of the plot where I could transplant my young broccoli plants to ensure they get enough sun in the winter. I'll be growing broad beans and garlic around them.
I don't follow strict crop rotation rules like some people on the allotment but I like to move crops around and not grow the same crop in the same place two years in a row.
It's also nice to have something to sow or plant when you clear a crop. Gives you something to look forward to and avoids having areas with bare soil, which is never good.
