Leave The Light On

Continuing to strip the house of anything that might get in the way of the decorators next week. We have horrible textured paper on most of the ceilings - a sort of artex effect - that we have put up with for many years as it seemed like a lot of work to change it. We thought it would involve new ceilings and replastering, but have been assured that they should be able to just strip off the old paper and put on a new smooth paper that can then be painted. Cheaper and quicker than replacing and replastering and should look just as good.
So the fancy light fittings have to come down. I wanted to get this done in advance, but, with days getting shorter, we would still need illumination in those rooms for a week or so. The solution was to buy some really cheap pendant fittings, connect them up and leave them just hanging there. Didn’t have any “BC” fitment light bulbs as such, but found some old energy saver style ones at the back of a cupboard. Don’t really like them, but they’ll do the trick for a couple of weeks.
Continued to fill holes around the electric sockets. I’m beginning to think that the best I can do is get them something like, and hope the decorators have some magic substances that will smooth out the remaining blemishes. I’m afraid that one of my little OCD obsessions is that sockets and switches should sit flush with the walls after being loosened to paint behind them. I hate seeing sockets and switches - or light fittings - that have paint all around the edges because they’d not been loosened or properly masked.
Apart from that, the day has been spent avoiding heavy rain showers. Trips to the Doctors, the Post Office, the supermarket and the gym were all necessary today but had to be timed to coincide with gaps in the showers. Not always successfully it must be said!!
