For Those About to Rock
Our drummer having a bit of a breather between sets, at last night’s gig. We were playing at a 40th wedding anniversary party and they had all enjoyed themselves dancing enthusiastically to our first set. We eschewed some of the “heavier” numbers (Another Brick in the Wall, Sunshine of Your Love, etc) in favour of more upbeat tunes - unlike a pub gig, we were conscious we were playing to a specific audience. As the saying goes “he who pays the piper, calls the tune”!
The second set was equally successful and there was a little bonus in that we actually finished on time. There was still everything to be broken down and loaded into the trailer, but I was still home by 1.30am - and that’s after I’d popped into Asda to fill up with diesel. Not unsurprisingly, at that time of night, I wasn’t involved in any panic buying or long queues!
Only had a short lie in this morning though, as we wanted to pop into town, do a bit of shopping and have our usual coffee, all before Mrs C was collected by her friends to go out for lunch at a hotel overlooking Windermere. All right for some - I had my usual ham roll and bag of crisps before heading off to play rehearsal. And for the first time in many weeks, we actually had a full cast, which made for a very good rehearsal. Only three weeks to go now, but it does seem to be coming together - I’ve even learnt some of my lines!
After rehearsal I went to the gym as I was one session short for this week. I had the place to myself and enjoyed a good workout to the excellent tunes of Pink Floyd blasting out from all the speakers. One of the joys of having the gym to yourself is that you can choose whatever music you like, as I fear some of my musical tastes may be a bit too niche for me to inflict on other members!
