Lost in Space
I’m sitting in the conservatory enjoying the warmth of late afternoon sun, when something catches my eye. A spider’s web. It’s hung on tight outside the glass through recent wind and rain, and now the gossamer threads are catching tiny rainbows rather than flies.
I grab my camera and manoeuvre to catch the prisms at their best. At this angle it’s no delicate web of gossamer threads with pastel glimmers. Rather it’s a far bolder structure of vibrant colours caught against an ominous near blackness.
A bit of processing, and it’s a scene from space, with tiny stars and meteor streaks through which interplanetary bodies in unworldly colours spin their way into oblivion.
Of course, these rainbows are a scientific phenomenon rather than some sci-fi fantasy - and though still something of a mystery to me, the link below explains things well.

In extras is a (hopefully) more recognisable view of the original web.
Thanks to Ingeborg for hosting Abstract Thursday!
