Pelican Flower
Yesterday I promised colour, and as it’s Flower Friday, the hotel gardens seem to be an ideal place to look for subjects. There’s a profusion of the usual sub-tropical flora - hibiscus, bougainvillea, canna lilies - but it’s an altogether different species that catches my eye. Above a trellised bridge are strange appendages - huge crepey sheet-like leaves the colour of raw meat, and peculiar pale inflated fruits or flowers, seemingly veined with blood vessels. This, I understand is Aristolochia - also known as Dutchman’s Pipe or Pelican Flower. Decidedly strange …….
And there’s a collage extra for more conventional colour.
