Black Sands, Burnt Feet

Day 3: Bus to Kumamoto then Kagoshima, the south coast city with sakurajima, an extremely active volcano, looming over it... We heard about a sand onsen in Ibusuke so took the bus there only to realize it had taken much too long and we only had 30 mins before we had to go back again! I got a 'little' tetchy at this point and we strode to the sand onsen to find a queue of people waiting to be buried in the hot sand. Gave up but S found that digging down on the neighbouring part of the beach also produced hot sand, so we had a brief hobo sand onsen.
