Routine Maintenance

Driving through East Lothian we passed this strange train.

It is one of many maintenance vehicles, in this case, Dr 73113, Plasser & Theurer 09-3X dynamic tamping express, that lifts track, complete with attached sleeper, jiggles round the ballast below then replaces the sleeper/rail, shoogles it in and tamps it down until it is in perfect alignment.

Clever, eh?
